Romantic Movies

Last week, I did a blog on scary movies; one of my favorite genres of movies to indulge in. But since my book will be released in a few weeks and it falls under the genre of "young adult paranormal romance," this week, I wanted to talk a little bit about what makes for a "good romance."

The idea of romance, like anything else, is subjective. There is no wrong or right definition of romance. Some people love that lush, sweep-me-off-my-feet romance, while others might prefer the "you doin' okay," low-maintenance type of romance. Myself, I'm a little bit of both (speaking purely from inside the bubble, of course). What makes a good romance is the connection between two people. That unforced, "I get you," vibe that people who really understand each other share. Now, don't get me wrong. Just because two people might really get each other doesn't mean that they won't have to work hard in a relationship. I think every relationship is a work in progress and we constantly have to strive to make it work; assuming of course, that you want it to work.

A good romance also entails a solid sense of humor, some playful, flirty behavior and the need to always want to see the person you are with at the end of the day. Ultimately though, romance doesn't follow a particular formula or guideline. Romance is a visceral experience. It's all about intuition and emotions and chemistry. Once that falls into place, good romance will naturally come.

Now, with all that said, I would like to know 3 of your favorite romantic movies? Mine are: 1) Crouching Tiger/Hidden Dragon (Ang Lee is brilliant) 2) Edward Scissorhands (Tim Burton is amazing), and 3) Romeo & Juliet (don't know the director, but it's a classic).
