Scary Movies

Scary movies have always been one of my favorite past times, especially as a kid. I used to repeatedly watch movies like "A Nightmare on Elm Street," "Poltergeist," and "Halloween," over and over. A good scare is always fun. But when a movie starts to leave scars, that's when it becomes "too much." The one scary movie that has done that to me is "The Exorcist."

As a kid, my parents never really censored me and my sisters from watching anything as long as it wasn't too sexually explicit. So while growing up, I was basically allowed to watch almost every horror movie that was released. "The Exorcist" was the one horror movie that to this day, still makes me cringe when I see Linda Blair's possessed face. I grew up bombarded with nightmares of Regan MacNeil chasing me down lone highways. It should never be a movie that a child should watch because it's that frightening. The themes in that movie were also so adult. I know that a lot of my friends laugh at the movie now, but they are also adults and have viewed it as adults. I'm sure it would be a different story if they were seven years old watching Regan twist her head around as she spews obscenities. Scary!

Anyway, this leads me to ask: What are your top 3 scary movies of all time?

Mine are: 1) The Exorcist 2) A Nightmare on Elm Street (The Original), and 3) The Shining.

  1. HI Vone,
I'm more into Science fiction than the Scary Movie genre. BUT saying that I have watched The Shining, (Mainly because I love watching Jack Nicholson!!) So I suppose I'd put that as my
No/ 1.... Just read one of your stories (Accidental Love.) and enjoyed it immensely..

  2. also meant to mention, I love your Poetry too, The Fight, especially...as I could 'see' myself in every word. We all have doubts and fears, wanting to be 'seen' and understood, to be loved and to learn to love ourselves, despite our failings.
